Pickle and Prayer

Pickleball has swept the country for a simple reason: almost anyone can pick up a paddle, and almost no one stops smiling once they do. Pickle and Prayer starts there, with a court, a paddle, and a group of people who are glad you came.

Every gathering pairs open play and real instruction with a short devotion. The game mirrors what the Word teaches: patience, focus, teamwork, and how to let the last shot go. Win the point or learn from the miss. Either way, you grow.

In Dr. Sonya's words

As an educator, I say laziness is not attractive. As a coach, I quote John Maxwell: teamwork makes the dream work. As a Christian, I believe we are all destined for great things, but we have to show up.

You cannot move forward while sitting still. There is a time to sit, a time to listen, and a time to move.

A gathering, start to finish

What an evening looks like

  1. 01A warm welcome and an opening prayer
  2. 02A short devotion with a lesson from the court
  3. 03Instruction for beginners, open play for everyone
  4. 04Time to talk, laugh, and catch your breath
  5. 05A closing word and prayer before you head home

Everyone is welcome

Who shows up

She plays, too

Dr. Sonya coaches tennis and pickleball, and has spent her career working with groups that span generations. On the court, that means real instruction for new players and a real game for seasoned ones.

The heart behind it

Sports can bring out the worst in us. Anyone who has questioned an opponent's call knows it. Pickle and Prayer is practice at bringing out something better: patience under pressure, grace in the banter, and peace that follows you off the court.

Faith grows here. Friendships form here. Fun happens here.

Grab a paddle

Two gatherings are on the calendar now at Westhaven Courts. Bring a friend. Come play with us.
